It seems like only yesterday you were watching that shiny new IT equipment going into your organization. But it could already time to say goodbye to those devices? Here are three sings that you may need to upgrade your hardware, courtesy of our Austin IT business support team at Gravity Systems:

1. Everything feels sluggish. Time is money in most occupations, so if your processes and programs are constantly timing out or taking forever to complete, you may be suffering not only frustration but also a revenue-threatening loss of productivity. Such slowdowns are a fact of life on obsolete hardware, if only because today's do-everything applications consume more and more drive space, memory, and processor power as they evolve.

2. You can't run the software you need to run. Even if you're not noticing any major hits in performance, you could wind up struggling with other potential problems. For instance, the next major OS update might not run on your old technology, making it impossible for you to maintain a secure system or run the latest versions of essential programs.

3. Your equipment is more than three to four years old. It may seem absurd to toss out a “perfectly good” workstation or server after a mere three or four years of service – but the industry moves ahead quickly, and its requirements can easily overtake even relatively new hardware. For one thing, socket standards have been known to change, leaving you wondering how you're going to attach a monitor with the latest plug into a PC that doesn't even have such a plug. You don't want to be scrambling in reaction to changes – you want to stay ahead of those changes.
